I have trying to verify that I can send a request for a read receipt when I send a message through Outlook 2000 SR-1 installed in Internet Mail mode. I am using Word 2000 as my default e-mail editor and I click on Options to check "Request a read receipt for this message" before I send the message.

When a message is sent with a read receipt request, that request is saved as a flag in the message. When the recipient opens the message (assuming the recipient is using Outlook), the program checks the flag setting, and if it's set, sends a read receipt. It also checks when the recipient deletes the message.
